How to protect your brand from the takeover

Right now, ecommerce brands have lots of tools at their disposal. From predictive pricing to automated ad buying, the same tools that once gave small brands an advantage are now available to everyone.

And that’s the problem.

When everyone has access to the same “smart” tech, advantage stops being about tools; it becomes about how you use them.

I’ve seen it firsthand.

One brand plugged in every AI tool under the sun (chatbots, auto ads, content generators), and called it “innovation.”

Another brand used AI quietly: to identify gaps in customer retention, personalize messaging, and test product descriptions.

Guess which one grew faster?

(Hint: not the loud one.)

There has been a lot of discussion about AI replacing founders and other professionals. But from my perspective, AI won’t do that; it will only replace lazy thinking.

So, if you want your brand to survive (and thrive) in the age of AI, here’s where to start:

  1. Use AI for insight. Let it guide your thinking, not do the thinking for you

  2. Protect your data. Don’t feed everything into public tools; your customer insights are your real IP

  3. Build a brand that tech can’t copy. Your tone, your story, your human edge, that’s what makes automation feel alive

  4. Invest in creativity. The more AI automates, the more originality stands out

My take: The AI wave won’t kill ecommerce. It’ll just widen the gap between brands that experiment and brands that delegate everything.

Well, this is my take… what’s yours?
