Somewhere between your morning coffee and your third Slack notification, you've probably seen it.
A tweet. A LinkedIn post. A WhatsApp forward from someone in your network who's suddenly very passionate about AI.
"GPT is better." "No, Claude is smarter." "Have you tried Gemini?"
And there you are, an ecommerce brand owner with products to sell, customers to serve, and revenue targets, wondering if any of this even matters to you.
It does. But probably not in the way people are making it sound. |

|
So What's the Difference? |
|
ChatGPT is the one everyone knows. We could say that it was first to the party, it's deeply embedded in most people's workflows, and it's genuinely good at a wide range of tasks. But more specifically, here's where it helps ecommerce brand owners:
- It's excellent at research: Ask it to break down a competitor's strategy, summarise a market trend, or pull together a content calendar, and it will deliver fast.
- It's great at brainstorming: Product names, campaign ideas, angle variations for ads. When you need volume and variety quickly, GPT is your friend.
- It has a massive ecosystem: Plugins, integrations, and tools built around it. If your team is already using it, the learning curve is basically zero.
- It can browse the internet in real time, which means it can pull current data, recent news, and live pricing. This is useful when you need up-to-date market context.
Claude (built by Anthropic) came in after GPT, but it's been gaining traction. Here's what makes it different:
- It writes in a way that sounds human: It is not robotic, not templated. If your brand has a voice and you care about your copy style, Claude picks up on tone better than almost anything else out there.
- It's exceptional at long-form content: It's good at newsletters like this one, brand storytelling and in-depth email sequences.
- It's remarkably good at following nuanced instructions: If you give it a detailed brief, it respects it. Tell it to avoid certain phrases, match a specific energy, or write for a particular audience, and it listens.
- When it comes to strategy and critical thinking: It's good at reviewing a marketing plan, poking holes in an idea, giving you an honest second opinion. Claude tends to go deeper rather than just agreeing with you.
Just like GPT, Claude also has a huge ecosystem. You can link it to your social media accounts, Slack, Canva, Gmail HubSpot, Google drive, Figma, Notion, etc. If you consider ChatGPT as the engine, then Claude is the creative director.
Both are impressive. Both have limitations. And honestly? The people spending hours debating which one is "better" are missing the point entirely. |

The Real Question Isn't Claude or GPT |
|
The real question should be: Are you using AI at all, and are you using it well?
Because here's what we're seeing across ecommerce brands right now:
The brands growing fast aren't necessarily the ones with the biggest budgets or the most followers. They're the ones who've figured out how to make AI do the heavy lifting, so their team can focus on the stuff that requires a human.
Things like:
- Writing and testing ad copy at a speed that was impossible two years ago
- Personalising email flows for thousands of customers without hiring a team of copywriters
- Analysing what's working in their content and doubling down on it faster
- Showing up consistently on social media without burning out their marketing team and budget
This isn't the future. This is happening right now, this quarter, for brands that made the decision to lock in. |
